Mistry는 여자의 오래된 주소다. '집 아주머니'라는 뜻인데, 특히 가사노동자가 있는 가장인 여성이 그렇다.
셰익스피어의 "윈저의 즐거운 아내들"에 나오는 "빠른 정부"가 그 예다. 그 호칭이 반드시 기혼여성과 미혼여성을 구별하는 것은 아니었다.
Mrs, Miss, Ms.라는 호칭은 Mistry에서 유래한 약칭이다.
