인도 범죄율(인구 10만명당 범죄발생률)은 2018년 383.5건, 2019년 385.5건에서 2020년 383.8건으로 증가했다.[1] 2020년 범죄의 증가는 일반적으로 COVID-19 관련 제한과 위반에 기인한다.[2][3] 2020년에는 아동 대상 강간, 납치, 범죄 등 범죄가 감소하는 반면 공무원 관련 범죄는 21%[3] 증가했다.

2018년에는 인도 형법(IPC) 범죄 300만 건과 특별법 및 지방법(SLL) 범죄 200만 건으로 총 500만 건이 등록됐다.[4] 2020년 평균 충전 시팅률은 82.5%[1]이다.

인도 북동부는 범죄 발생률이 가장 낮은 주들로, 5개 주 중 4개가 이 지역 출신이다.[5] 나가란드는 44명에서 증가했지만 전국에서 가장 낮은 등록 범죄율(라흐 인구당 69.4명)을 유지하고 있다. 또 전국 점유율 기준 범죄 발생률이 가장 낮았다.[6]

도시들 중에서 델리, 첸나이, 아메다바드, 수라트, 뭄바이는 2020년에 가장 많은 범죄가 등록되어 있다.[7][8]
