디메트로푸스는 유럽과 북아메리카의[2][3] [1]페름기부터[1][2] 트라이아스기에 이르는 이크노포실 집합체에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 파충류 이크노제누스이다.디메트로푸스의 선로를 분석한 결과, 이 흔적은 디아덱트류 또는 비테라프류 시냅스류(펠리코사우루스)[4]에 의해 남겨졌다는 증거가 나왔다.
