X 칸크리는 암의 북쪽 별자리에 있는 변광성이다.[8]붉은 색조를 띠며, 겉보기 시각적 크기 6.28을 중심으로 변동하면서 최대 크기에서 육안으로 볼 수 있다.[2]이 물체까지의 거리는 시차 측정 기준 약 2,900광년이지만 방사상 속도 -5 km/s로 더 가까이 표류하고 있다.[1][2]그것은 황색에 매우 가까이 있어서 달의 암초에 걸리기 쉽다.[9]
이 물체는 탄소 항성 - 대기 중의[5] 산소보다 탄소가 풍부한 점근성 거대 가지 위의 노화된 적색 거성 별이며, 하늘에서 가장 밝은 탄소 별 중 하나이다.[10]C-N4.5 C52.5 MS3의 탄소별 스펙트럼 분류를 가지고 있다.[3]첫 번째 C는 그것이 탄소 별임을 나타내고, N5는 꽤 시원하고 강렬한 빨간색 AGB 별이라는 것을 나타낸다.C지수는2 1~8의 척도로 스완 밴드의 강도를 나타내며 탄소 대 산소의 상대적 풍부함을 보여준다.MS 스펙트럼 등급과 혼동하지 않는 MS 지수는 1~7의 척도로 SiC2 대역의 강도를 나타낸다.이 띠들은 온도에 매우 민감하다고 여겨진다.[11]
이는 193일의 기간으로 시각적 규모 5.52에서 7.5까지 밝기 범위가 축소된 SRB 아형의 반정형 변수 별이다.[4]푸리에 분석 결과, 항성은 350일과 1,870일의 기간에도 펄스가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다.[13]
X Cancri의 각도 직경은 달 오컬트와 매우 긴 기준 간섭계를 사용하여 측정되었으며, 두 방법 모두 약 8마스의 직경을 제공한다.[14]
