발렌타인 세인트 중위 바비큐 콜린스(Babburb Collins, 1894년 1월 2일 ~ 1918년 9월 2일)는 영국 왕립 비행 군단과 영국 공군에서 복무한 10번의 공중전 승리를 인정받은 제1차 세계대전의 영국 비행 에이스였다.
배경
발렌타인 세인트1894년 1월 2일 버뮤다에서 찰스 베리 콜린스 대령, CMG DSO(RE), 아내 에델드레드 세인트 바비큐 콜린스의 아들 바비큐 콜린스가 태어났다.[1][2][3][4]그는 영국 버크셔의 크라우손에 있는 웰링턴 공작의 국가 기념물로 세워진 웰링턴 대학에서 공부했다.[2][5]1916년 6월, 당시 중령이었던 그의 부친은 공로훈장을 수여받았으나, 이듬해인 1917년 3월 1일 동아프리카 다르에스살람 근처에서 사망했다.[6][7][8]그는 영국 공병대와 인도 퀘타에 주둔하고 있는 동아프리카 원정대의 일부에서 근무했다.[8][9][10]
군경력
발렌타인 콜린스는 1916년 10월 영국 왕립비행단에 입대했다.[11]그는 RFC 특별 예비군에서 복무했다.[3]먼저 45번 편대에 배치되었으나 1916년 11월 29일 부상을 당했다.[11]1917년 프랑스에서 48번 비행대에서 복무하다가 1917년 12월 프랑스로 귀환했다.[4][11]1918년 4월 1일 왕립비행단(王立行團)과 왕립해군항공대를 합병한 후 왕립공군 제22중대대에서 근무했다.[12]콜린스 중위는 모두 옵서버로서 10번의 공중전 승리를 인정받고 있다.[4][11]처음 3대는 왕립비행단 48번 중대와, 다음 7대는 왕립공군 22번 중대와 함께였다.콜린스는 브리스톨 파이터로도 알려진 2인승 항공기 겸 정찰기인 브리스톨 F.2b에서 모든 승리를 거두었다.[13]
윌리엄 다울링 보스토크 호주 중위가 조종한 브리스톨 F.2b의 알바트로스 D.V.에 각각 3점씩 맞섰다.파일럿 보스토크는 2차 세계대전이 시작되면서 영국 호주공군의 상급 지휘관인 공군 부사령관이 되었다.[14][15]콜린스의 첫 승리는 1917년 9월 4일 보스토크가 조종한 일련번호 A7224의 브리스톨 F.2b에서 일어났다.상대편 항공기는 벨기에 웨스트 플랜더스에 있는 미델커케와 오스텐드 상공에서 통제 불능 상태로 보내졌다.콜린스는 1917년 9월 27일 보스토크가 조종한 브리스톨 파이터에서 다시 웨스트 플랜더스의 페르비제에게 더블 승리를 거두었다.한 상대 알바트로스 D.V는 파괴되었고, 15분 후에 다른 사람의 것은 통제 불능으로 보내졌다.[4]

죽음
발렌타인 세인트 중위바비큐 콜린스는 1918년 9월 2일 프랑스에서 24세의 나이로 전사했다.[11][18][19]그는 프랑스 파스데칼레 주 아르라스 드골 장군 묘지에 있는 파우르그 다미엔스 묘지의 아라스 비행 서비스 기념비에 기념되어 있다.[3][20]그와 함께 살해된 사람은 D7790을 조종하던 호주 시드니 출신의 브라이언 라이들리 다울링 선장이었다.[11]그는 같은 기념비에 기념된다.[21]
