트루이스트 센터는 노스캐롤라이나 주 샬럿 시내에 있는 47층, 659피트(201m)의 초고층 건물이다. 이 도시에서 세 번째로 높은 빌딩으로 노스 트라이온 가를 따라 위치해 있다. 2002년 11월 14일 개관하였으며, 2019년까지 '히스트 타워'로 알려져 있다. 이 구조물은 15층 높이의 연단 꼭대기에 놓여 있는 32층 탑으로 구성되어 있다. 단상 내부에는 스키드모어, 오윙스 & 메릴이 설계하고 뱅크오브아메리카가 운영하는 3층, 17,000평방미터(18만평방피트) 규모의 거래소가 있다. 이 건물은 현재 트루이스트 파이낸셜 본사로 2020년 3월 매입했다.

건물의 역바닥판[clarification needed] 디자인은 상층부가 평균 2,200 평방미터(2만4,000평방피트)인 데 비해 하층부는 평균 1,900 평방미터(2만4,000평방피트)에 불과하다.[1]

이 건물의 칼리지 스트리트 로비는 파리의 르본 마르슈 백화점에서 구조된 에드가 브랜트가 디자인한 놋쇠 난간을 특징으로 한다. 트루이스트 플라자(Truist Plaza)는 레스토랑과 상점, 아트 갤러리 등이 즐비한 4만 평방 피트의 공공광장으로 노스트루이스트 플라자는 노스 트라이온 가에서 떨어진 정문 옆에 위치해 있다.[2] 광장 앞에는 하워드 벤 트레(Howard Ben Tre)가 '캐스텔란(Castellan)'이라는 제목으로 만든 3m(9.8피트) 크기의 유리와 청동 조형물이 있는데, 이는 '성곽의 관리자'라는 뜻으로 해석된다. 로비 내에는 2014년 10월 선보인 코워킹 스페이스인[clarification needed] 콜라보레이션214가 있다.214'가 있다. 이 건물의 독특한 디자인은 본사 디자인의 반대가 되어 인근 뱅크오브아메리카 기업센터의 웨딩케이크 디자인을[clarification needed] 보완한 것이었다.[3]

역사

그 건물은 뱅크 오브 아메리카에 의해 개발되었다. 원래 허스트 커뮤니케이션즈라는 이름의 이 회사는 캐릴런 빌딩에서 이전한 후 20만 평방피트를 차지했고 뱅크오브아메리카는 평방피트의 약 절반을 점유했다. 공사를 끝내기 전에는 94% 임대되었다. 그 건물의 원래 비용은 1억 6천만 달러였다.[4]

Cousins Properties Incorporated는 파크웨이 프로퍼티와의 2016년 합병을 통해 2013년 뱅크오브아메리카로부터 2억 5천만 달러에 건물을 매입했다.[5][6] 매각 당시 뱅크오브아메리카(Bank of America)는 322,311평방피트를 차지했으며 건물은 94% 임대됐다.[7][8] 2019년 6월 12일 BB&T와 선트러스트뱅크스의 합병으로 결성될 은행 지주회사인 트루이스트 파이낸셜이 향후 신설 법인 본사에 허스트타워를 선정했다고 밝혔다.[9] 트루이스트는 타워 내 56만1000제곱피트(5만2100m2)를 점유하게 되며 2019년 4분기(46월)에 커즌스로부터 타워를 4억5550만달러에 구매할 수 있는 옵션을 갖게 된다.[10] Hearst Communications는 2019년 8월 14일 트루이스트를 위해 2020년 초 발란티네 인근 사무실로 이름 지어진 탑을 이전할 것이라고 발표했다.[11][12] 뱅크오브아메리카(Bank of America), 허스트 커뮤니케이션스(Hearst Communications), K&L 게이츠(K&L Gates)가 타워 밖으로 이사하면서 남긴 공간은 트루이스트가 사각형의 절반 이상을 차지할 수 있게 했다. 미국 은행, 프라이스워터하우스쿠퍼스, 브래들리, 딕슨 휴즈 굿맨이 건물 내 세입자로 계속 활동하고 있다.[13]

트루이스트는 은행 경영진, 기업 커뮤니케이션, 금융, 인사, 보험, 법률, 기술, 위험 관리 등을 건물 내에 이전할 계획을 발표했다. 이 은행은 2020년 8월에 단계적으로 움직이며 2021년 6월까지 지속될 것이다.[14] 이 은행은 이 건물에 2,000개까지 수용할 계획이다.[15] 트루이스트는 기술, 법률, 회계 직원을 고객들과 함께 데려올 계획인 샬롯 혁신센터가 이 건물에 들어설 것이라고 발표했다.[16] 2020년 12월 현재 건설 중이다.

2019년 12월 11일 트루이스트 파이낸셜은 Cousins Properties에서 건물을 4억 5,550만 달러에 매입하는 옵션을 공식적으로 행사하고 타워 이름을 트루이스트 센터로 바꾸겠다고 발표했다. 새로운 사이니지 또한 추가될 것이다.[17] 이 거래는 2020년 3월 31일에 완료되었다. 그러나 COVID-19 대유행으로 인해 추가 조치가 지연될 것이다.[18]

2020년 11월에는 트루이스트라는 이름을 가진 2개(북트라이튼과 노스칼리지 거리 쪽에), 로고가 새겨진 2개 등 4개의 간판이 올라왔다. 이 표지판은 탑의 곡선과 너무 뚜렷한 대조를 보인다는 비판과 함께 상당한 논란을 일으켰다. 이 건물의 건축가인 찰스 헐은 새로운 표지판을 공공 기물 파손 행위라고 비난했다.[19] 현재 "샬롯의 아트 데코 마천루를 구하라!"라는 제목의 청원이 있다. TRUIST 표지판 제거!!!" Change.org에 "트루이스트에게 표지판 제거를 요청했다.
