시그마 퍼피스(Sigma Puppetis)는 σ Puppetis에서 라틴어로 표기된 것으로, Puppis의 남쪽 별자리에 있는 2진 별 체계다.남반구에서 밤에 육안으로 볼 수 있을 정도로 밝은 3.25의 겉보기 시야를 가지고 있다.[2]망원경을 통해, 그것은 근처에 있는 하얀 동반자와 함께 밝은 오렌지색 허를 가진 별로 나타난다.[10]시차 측정은 이 별이 지구로부터 약 194광년(59파섹) 거리에 위치해 있음을 나타낸다.[1]
이것은 분광형 이항계로,[9] 망원경으로 개별적으로 분해되지 않은 궤도를 도는 별 쌍으로 구성되어 있다.이들의 궤도주기는 257.8일이고 이심률은 0.17일이다.[6]이 쌍은 베타 리래 유형의 생략 바이너리를 형성하며, 공전 주기의 절반인 130.5일의 기간을 갖는다.1차 성분의 일식은 0.04의 크기를 감소시키는 반면 2차 일식은 0.03의 크기를 감소시킨다.[11][12]
복합 항성 분류는 K5 III로 거대 항성의 스펙트럼과 일치한다.[3]일차 항성의 측정 각 직경은 16.71 ± 2.84 mas이다.[13]이 계통의 추정 거리에서는 태양 반지름의 약 107배의 물리적 크기를 산출한다.[7]1차 구성요소는 느린 불규칙 변수의 동작을 보여준다.[11][12]
시그마 퍼피스는 그것의 이진 성분들 외에도, 더 먼 동료가 있는데, 그것은 2진수에 중력적으로 결합되어 있을지도 모른다는 것을 암시하는 적절한 동작과 일치하는 적절한 동작을 가지고 있다.이 진도 8.5의[10] 별은 시그마 퍼피스로부터 74°의 위치 각도로 22.4 아크의 각이 분리되어 있으며, 이는 1,200 AU의 예상 분리에 해당한다.[14]1970년, 미국의 천문학자 올린 J. 에겐은 시그마 인피스가 우주를 통해 유사한 움직임을 공유하는 움직이는 별 그룹에 속하며, 따라서 공통적인 기원이 될 것이라고 제안했다.이것의 어의 역할을 한 것은 σ Puppyis 그룹이다.[15]이 집단의 존재는 나중에 문제 삼게 되었다.[16]
