NGC 4098은 혼수상태의 베레니스 별자리에서 3억 3천만 광년 떨어진[3] 곳에 위치한[2] 나선은하의[2][3] 쌍이다.[4]NGC 4098은 1785년 4월 26일 천문학자 윌리엄 허셜에 의해 발견되었다.그 후 1786년 12월 27일 허셜에 의해 재발견되어 NGC 4099로 등재되었다.[5]NGC 4098은 NGC 4065 그룹의 구성원이다.[6][7][8][9][10]

NGC 4098은 은하 쌍 VV 62와 상호작용하고 있다.[2]

2015년 4월 25일 NGC 4098에서 SNhunt287(PSN J12060084+2036183)로 지정된 알 수 없는 유형의 후보 초신성이 발견되었다.[11][12][13]
