IC 755는 NGC 4019로도 알려져 있으며,[3] 막대 나선 은하다.[6]그것은 북쪽 별자리의 혼수상태 베레니스에서 약 6천만 광년 떨어져 있다.[4]처녀자리 은하단의 일원이다.[5]
1999년에 IC 755 안에 있는 항성이 초신성으로 폭발하는 것으로 보였으며 SN 1999an이라는 이름이 붙여졌다.[4]SN 1999an과 같은 초신성은 타입 II로[4] 분류되며 거대 스타들의 삶의 종말을 알리는 극적인 사건들이다.이 초신성은 베이징 천문대 초신성 조사에 의해 발견되었다.
