마란궁구는 메네테, 에미 등과 함께 서부 달라이어족의 마란지족의 방언 중 하나로 분류된다.[2]

노먼 틴데일의 계산에 따르면 마리릉고는 딜케 산맥의 부근에 약 250평방마일(650km2)의 부족 영토를 가지고 있었으며 달리 강의 늪지대를 향해 북쪽 방향으로 달리고 있었다.[5]
