아버지로부터 딸에게 보낸 편지들은 자와할랄 네루가 딸 인디라 네루에게 쓴 편지 모음집인데, 네루의 요청으로 1929년 알라하바드 법학저널프레스(Allahabad Law Journal Press)가 1928년 여름 인디라가 10살 때 보낸 편지 30장만으로 구성되어 있다.그는 1931년에 제2판을 편찬하였고, 이후 더 많은 재인쇄와 판본이 출판되었다.[1][2][3][4][5]
그 편지들은 자연사와 인류사의 주제에 관한 교육 작품이었다.편지가 쓰여질 무렵 네루는 알라하바드에 있었고, 인디라는 무수리에 있었다.네루가 쓴 원문이 영어로 되어 있는 동안 힌디 소설가 문시 프레망드에 의해 피타 케 파트라 푸트리 케나암이라는 이름으로 힌디어로 번역되었다.2014년에는 로돌포 자모라가 공연한 '카르타스 a mi hija Indira'(내 딸 인디라에게 보내는 편지)를 사용하여 이 책의 스페인어로 쿠바어 번역본을 편집했다.그 판에는 다른 5통의 편지가 실렸다.2018년 쿠바에서도 자와할랄 네루와 인디라 간디의 교신 100주년을 기념해 증폭된 신판이 나왔다.[6][7][8]
