Live555 스트리밍 미디어는 멀티미디어 스트리밍을 위해 Live Networks, Inc.에서 개발한 오픈 소스(LGPL) C++ 라이브러리의 집합체다.[1]The libraries support open standards such as RTP/RTCP and RTSP for streaming, and can also manage video RTP payload formats such as H.264, H.265, MPEG, VP8, and DV, and audio RTP payload formats such as MPEG, AAC, AMR, AC-3 and Vorbis.[2]내부적으로는 VLC, mplayer 등 잘 알려진 소프트웨어가 사용한다.

소프트웨어 배포에는 완전한 RTSP 서버 애플리케이션, RTSP 클라이언트 및 RTSP 프록시 서버도 포함된다.[3][4][5]
