제임스 H. 스미리
James H. Smylie제임스 허친슨 스마일리(James Hutchinson Smilie, 1925년 10월 20일 ~ 2019년[1][2] 1월 5일)는 유니온신학대학원 교회사 교수로 미국 교회사와 장로교 관련 서적을 저술했다.
경력
스마일리는 아버지가 목사였던 웨스트버지니아주 헌팅턴에서 태어났다. 그는 워싱턴 대학에서 교육을 받았다. 루이스는 1946년에 BA를 졸업했고, 프린스턴 신학교에서 1949년에 BD를, 1950년에 석사 학위를 받았다. 그는 성에서 장로교 목사를 지냈다. 루이스는 1950-1952년에 엘리자베스 로블레와 결혼했다. 1952년부터 1962년까지 그는 프린스턴 신학교에서 가르쳤고, 처음에는 1958년에 완공된 그곳에서 박사과정을 밟고 있었다. 1962년 버지니아주 유니온신학대학원(현 유니온/PSCE)에서 연구를 시작해 1968년 전임교수가 됐고 1996년 은퇴할 때까지 그 자리에 머물렀다.
그의 박사학위 논문은 1780-1796년 미국 성직자와 미국 헌법을 주제로 한 것이었으며, 그의 관심사는 교회-국가 관계, 인권, 장로교 신학이 미국 정치사상에 미치는 영향 등을 포함하도록 그 주제로부터 넓어졌다.
