Gaultois는 캐나다 뉴펀들랜드와 래브라도의 베이 해안 지역에 있는 작은 정착지다.굴토아는 2021년 현재 100명의 인구를 가지고 있다.마을에는 빅토리아 아카데미[2](2021~22년 현재 6명의 학생이 재학 중)라는 K-12학교와 소방서, 공공도서관, 라이온스클럽, 마을회관 등이 있다.그 마을은 여객선이나 헬리콥터로만 갈 수 있다.배는 인근 에르미타주 시에서 매일 여러 차례 운항하며 건널목은 약 20분이 소요된다.[3]이 여객선은 또한 매일 한 시간에서 두 번 정도 더 멀리 떨어져 있는 맥컬럼 지역사회에 1시간 15분 정도의 횡단시간을 제공한다.[4]2015년 고토아는 재정착에 반대하는 투표를 했다.[5][6][7]

1949년 캐나다와 연합하기 전에, Gaultois는 생피에르와 미켈론 섬으로 여행하기를 원하는 사람들을 위한 세관 마을이었다.정착 전 인구는 5년 전 252명으로 최고조에 달했던 1956년 107명으로 줄었다.1966년 재정착 후, Gaultois 인구는 594명으로 증가했고, 어초와 그 끌러들은 마을의 주요 고용주였다.1877년 첫번째 웨이마스터는 리처드 브래드쇼였다.

어촌계인 굴토아는 1981년[8] 호수그룹이 처음 수산물 공장 폐쇄를 발표했을 때, 그리고 1990년 수산물 인터내셔널이 수산물 공장을 폐쇄하면서 다시 감소세로 돌아섰다.[9]Gaultois 어초는 2010년에 영구 폐쇄되었다.[10]2017년 현재 인구는 1990년대 이후 80%나 급감했다.[11]

인구통계학

캐나다 통계청이 실시한 2021년 인구총조사에서 굴토아는 전체 민간주거 74개 중 45개 지역에 100명이 거주하고 있어 2016년 인구 136개에서 -26.5%의 변화가 있었다.국토면적이 4.23km2(1.63sqmi)로 2021년에는 인구밀도가 23.6/km2(61.2/sqmi)에 달했다.[12]
