DAF-4 유전자는 Caenorhabditis elegans [1]웜에서 TGF-β 신호 경로의 유일한 II형 수용체를 리간드 Daf-7 또는 Dbl-1로 [2]암호화한다.리간드 Daf-7에 결합하면 Daf-4는 I형 수용체 Daf-1과 복합하여 Smad 단백질 Daf-8/14를 활성화하였다.반면 Dbl-1에 결합할 때 Daf-4는 Sma-6 타입 I 수용체와 복합되어 Sma-2/3/[3]4를 활성화하였다.
