Ancrum(스코티시 게일어: 앨런 크롬)은 제드버그에서 북쪽으로 5km 떨어진 스코틀랜드의 보더스 지역에 있는 마을이다.[2][3]
현재 약 300명의 인구를 가지고 있는 이 마을은 Ancrum을 관통하는 B6400의 A68 간선도로 바로 옆에 위치해 있다. 릴리리리프(Liliesleaf)는 B6400을 따라 11km 더 떨어져 있으며, 덴홀름(Denholm)은 테비오트 강과 평행하게 흐르는 미분류 도로를 따라 도달할 수 있다.
고대 알네크럼이라는 이 곳의 이름은 지금의 알레 강인 알네 강의 굽은 곳에 있는 마을의 처지에서 유래되었다. 이전에는 오버 애크럼과 네더 애크럼이라는 호칭으로 구별되는 두 개의 마을이 있었는데, 지금은 아무것도 남아 있지 않다.
역사적으로 중요한 중요한 사건은 1545년 랄프 에버스와 브라이언 레이튼 경이 영국 왕 헨리 8세의 보조금으로 그들에게 부여된 머스와 테비오데일의 땅을 소유하기 위해 시도한 시도로 시작된 안크럼 무어 전투다. 그 지역에 상당한 재산을 가지고 있던 앵거스 백작은 그 시도에 저항하기로 결심했고, 그의 군대와 영국군 사이의 전투는 마을에서 북쪽으로 1마일 반 정도 떨어진 황야에서 벌어졌는데, 그 곳에서 후작은 큰 패배를 당했다. 이 분쟁으로, 안크룸의 두 마을은 모두 불에 타 없어졌다. 네더 안크룸의 마을은 곧 재건되었지만, 다른 마을들 중 한 두 채의 황폐한 집들만 남아 있다.[4]
어원
William J. Watson은 'Ancrum'을 'Anne + Cumbric crwm' 또는 'Gaelic crom'이라는 강 이름에서 유래했다.[5]
역사
13세기에 글래스고우 윌리엄 드 본딩턴 주교가 이곳에 거주했지만 그 위치는 여전히 조사 중이다.[6]
이 지역의 역사의 많은 부분은 알렉산더 제프리가 베르윅셔 자연주의자들의 모임에 보낸 그의 논문에서 쓴 것이다.[7] 또한 그의 4권짜리 작품인 록스버그셔와 인근 지역의 역사와 유물에는 가장 외진 시기부터 현재까지 더 넓은 배경 정보가 있다.[8] 이 후자의 작품에도 안크럼에 관한 섹션이 있다.[9]
마을 주변 특정 지역에서 볼 수 있는 두 개의 지역 명소로는 워터루 기념비와 팀펜데스 타워가 있다.
Ancrum은 그 이름이 유래된 Ale Water의 루프에 자리잡고 있다. 에일은 남쪽으로 테비오 강에 합류하고, 그 강은 몬테비오 가를 지나 흐른다.
마을의 바로 북쪽에 있는 지역은 1545년 마을이 실질적으로 파괴되었을 때 안크룸 무어 전투가 있었던 곳이다. 네더 안크럼은 1639년 바론 버그가 되었다.[3]
