역사

ALS TDI는 제임스 헤이우드, 로버트 보나졸리, 멜린다 마시 헤이우드가 1999년 제임스 헤이우드의 동생 스티븐 헤이우드(Stephen Heywood) 진단을 받고 ALS 치료 개발 재단(ALS TDF)으로 설립됐다.[3]Tennore Ramesh 박사는 그의 여동생이 ALS 진단을 받고 연구시설을 설치했을 때 ALS-TDF에 가입했고, 설립 초기부터 2003년까지 최고과학책임자(Ceo Scientific Officer)로 재직했다.이 단체는 처음에는 알렉스와 브릿 다벨로프의 기부와 함께 스티븐의 기부를 통해 자금을 지원받았다.이 재단의 첫 번째 치료 개념은 유전자 치료를 이용해 EAT2 단백질을 대체하는 것이었다.[2][4]

ALS TDI는 2013년 Denali Therapeutics와 제휴하여 "ALS의 하위 그룹, 환자 데이터, 유전체학, iPS 세포 기술을 이용한 잠재적 치료"를 시작했다.[21]2015년까지 300명 이상의 사람들이 이 프로그램에 등록되어 사전 등록되었으며 아이스 버킷 챌린지에서 모금된 상당한 자금에 의해 자금이 지원되었다.[22][23][24]

In 2020 the Institute Published "Type I PRMT Inhibition Protects Against C9ORF72 Arginine-Rich Dipeptide Repeat Toxicity" in Frontiers in Pharmacology with a follow-up paper in 2021 called "Hypothesis and Theory: Roles of Arginine Methylation in C9orf72-Mediated ALS and FTD" in Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience.
