와콜은 오스트레일리아 퀸즐랜드 주 브리즈번 시의 교외다.[3] 2016년 인구조사에서 와콜의 인구는 3,761명이었다.[1]

지리

와콜은 서쪽으로는 브리즈번 강, 북쪽으로는 월스턴 크릭에 의해 느슨하게 경계를 이루고 있다. 브리즈번 중심상업지구에서 남서쪽으로 18km(11mi) 떨어져 있다.[4]

역사

터미네이션 힐은 탐험가 존 옥슬리가 1823년 12월 브리즈번 강을 오르는 첫 항해 종착지에서 이름을 지었다.[9]

1900년경 월스턴 역세권 부동산도

월스턴 하우스는 1852년에 문을 열었다. 오늘날에도 여전히 손상되지 않은 건물은 브리즈번 강 초기의 유일한 정착지다.[10] 그 건물은 철거될 계획이었지만 퀸즐랜드의 내셔널 트러스트(National Trust of Queensland)가 건물을 구하기 위해 개입했다. 주요 보존 작업이 수행되었다.

와콜의 일부는 월스턴 에스테이트로 1901년 10월 16일 브리즈번 센테니얼 홀에서 경매에 붙여진 3000에이커 면적의 54개 농장으로 구성되어 있다.[12][13] 월스턴 에스테이트는 M. B. 고그스의 재산으로, 그의 아버지는 1860년대에 40년 전에 땅을 얻었고, 그 후에 고그스 로드가 명명되었다.[14] 원래 경매에서 팔린 농장은 3곳뿐이다.[13]

1879년 예룽필리 사단의 지방정부 지역이 신설되었다. 1891년, 예룽필리 사단의 일부가 면제되어 1903년 셔우드 사단이 월스턴 에스테이트 지역을 포함하는 샤이어가 되었다. 1925년에 셔우드의 샤이어는 브리즈번 시로 합병되었다.[15]

The suburb played host to the American military during World War II, who constructed Camp Columbia (27°35′00″S 152°56′13″E / 27.5833°S 152.9369°E / -27.5833; 152.9369 (Camp Columbia)) in 1942; after the war, control of the facility was transferred to the Australian Government which used it as a migrant reception and training centre from 1949 to 1987.[16] 이주센터와 연계된 와콜 이스트 스테이트 스쿨은 1949년 11월 14일 "신호주인을 위한 특수학교"로 개교하여 1963년 4월 11일 폐교하였다.[17]

HM교도소 와콜은 1957년 와콜 보안 환자 병원(정신질환자를 위한)을 위한 특별 건물로 문을 열었다. 1988년에 와콜 교정 센터로 개칭되었다가 1996년에 모어튼 교정 센터로 개칭되었다. 1999년에는 문을 닫고 월스턴 교정 센터로 재건된다.[19]

2011년 인구조사에서 와콜은 2,957명의 인구를 가지고 있었다.[30]

2011년 12월, 동물 학대 방지를 위한 왕립 협회는 페어필드 소재지에서 와콜로 이전했다.[31]

운송
