스킬쉐어(Styleshare)는 교육용 동영상에서 배우고자 하는 사람들을 위한 미국의 온라인 학습 커뮤니티다.[1][2][3]인가를 받지 않은 강좌는 구독을 통해 이용할 수 있다.[4][5]

대다수의 과정은 프로젝트를 완성함으로써 배우는 것을 주요 목표로 하여 강의보다는 상호작용에 중점을 둔다.주요 과정 범주로는 창작 예술, 디자인, 기업가정신, 라이프스타일, 기술 등이 있다.[6]

역사

마이클 칸야나프라콘과 말콤 옹은 2010년 11월 뉴욕시에서 스킬셰어를 시작했으며, 2011년 4월에 라이브로 운영되었다.[7][8]앞서 카르나납라콘은 페이스북이 구매한 소셜미디어 제품인 핫포테이토에서 제품팀을 이끌었다.옹은 OMGop의 제품 매니저였다.[9][10]스킬쉐어는 2011년 8월 유니언스퀘어벤처스와 스파크캐피털이 이끄는 시리즈A 펀딩에서 310만 달러를 모금했다.[9][11]2013년 말 스킬쉐어는 유니언 스퀘어 벤처스와 스파크 캐피털이 공동 주도로 2014년 2월까지 465만 달러,[12] 600만 달러를 모금했다.총 기금은 천만 달러에 달했다.[13]

스킬셰어는 2012년 4월 마이클 칸야나프락콘, 코덱아데미 공동창업자 잭 심스, 프로미션의 연필스 창업자 애덤 브라운 등이 연사로 나서 [8][14]현 교육제도와 개혁방안에 대한 1일 토론인 페니 콘퍼런스를 개최했다.[8]

스킬셰어는 2012년 8월 15개의 자습 온라인 강좌를 개설했으며,[1][4][15][16][17] 학생들이 프로젝트를 완성하기 위해 협업하고 있다.[5]2013년 11월까지 250개 이상의 강좌를 개최하고,[12][15] 디자인 스쿨을 출범시켰다.[18]

스킬셰어는 리바이스와 협업해 2013년 10월 메이킹어마크 스쿨을 론칭해 사진, 문신, 다양한 형태의 일러스트레이션 강좌로 개인의 창의성을 집중 조명했다.[19][19][20]

2014년 3월 스킬쉐어는 월 9.95달러의 멤버십 모델로 이적했다.[21]그해 말 누구나 강좌 강사가 될 수 있는 새로운 오픈 플랫폼과 매월 한정된 수업 내용을 볼 수 있는 무료 회원권을 발표했다.[22]

스킬셰어는 2016년 5월 시리즈 B 펀딩으로 1200만 달러를 모금했다.[23]이 회사는 2018년 7월 시리즈 C 자금 2800만 달러(지분 2000만 달러, 벤처 부채 800만 달러)를 추가로 조달했다.[24]

스킬쉐어는 2019년 3월 현재 27,000개 이상의 프리미엄 클래스와 2,000개 이상의 무료 클래스를 이용할 수 있다.플랫폼은 회원들이 토론과 프롬프트를 통해 다른 크리에이터와 연결, 작업 공유, 한 단계 높은 스킬을 가져갈 수 있는 '그룹' 기능을 도입했다.[25]

스킬셰어는 2021년 9월 무료 강좌를 제공하는 옵션을 중단했으며, 유급 회원권을 갖거나 무료 평가판을 통해 모든 강좌(이전에 무료로 이용 가능했던 강좌 포함)[26]에 접속할 수 있도록 의무화했다.
