사이먼 아로라(Simon Arora, 1969년 11월 출생)는 영국의 억만장자 사업가로 유통 체인 B&M의 CEO이다.

초년기

시몬 아로라는 1969년 11월에 태어났다.[2] 그는 케임브리지 대학에서 법학을 공부했다.[3]

경력

아로라는 맥킨지, 3i, 바클레이스의 애널리스트로 일했다.[3]

1995년 동생 바비 아로라와 함께 아시아에서 홈웨어를 수입해 영국 유통망에 납품한 뒤 2004년 B&M을 사들였고, 당시 블랙풀에 기반을 두고 고전하던 식료품 체인이었다.[3]

2017년 사이먼과 바비 아로라가 2억1500만 파운드의 주식을 현금화해 B&M 지분을 상장 후 3년 만인 4분기까지 줄였다.[4]

2019년 5월 현재 아로라 형제(시몬, 바비, 로빈)는 공동 22억6000만 파운드의 순자산을 갖고 있다.[1]

Covid-19 요금 경감

2020년 3월, 영국의 COVID-19 대유행의 결과로, 당시 재무장관이었던 리시 순악은 접대 및 소매 분야의 기업들에게 사업 요율 완화 및 휴업 지불을 주었다.[5][6] B&M은 '필수 판매점'으로 분류된 몇몇 사업체 중 하나였으며, 그 결과 다른 비필수 사업체들이 문을 닫아야 할 때에도 영업을 계속하도록 허용되었다.[7][8] 2020년 11월 B&M 등 유통업체들은 사상 최대 이익을 냈음에도 불구하고 제약으로 거래가 금지된 유통업체를 부양하기 위해 지급한 총 18억 파운드의 대금을 돌려주지 않아 여론의 뭇매를 맞았다.[9] 이 소매업자는 2억9600만 파운드의 이윤을 신고했고, 그 결과 3천800만 파운드의 영업금리 경감 및 370만 파운드의 휴업급여를 받았음에도 불구하고 2억5천만 파운드의 특별배당을 발행했다.[9][10] 아로라 형제는 최소 7억5000만 파운드의 가치가 있다고 하는 15%의 지분 보유로 인해 총 3700만 파운드의 특별배당을 받았다.[10][7] 이 회사는 테스코, 세인즈베리, 모리스온스 등 주요 슈퍼마켓에서 인상한 8천만 파운드의 영업이익을 올리기로 합의했다.[8]

사생활

케임브리지대에서 자연과학 학위를 받은 샬니 아로라와 결혼했으며, 바이오테크 비즈니스 DxS의 공동 창업자였다.[11] 그들에게는 두 딸이 있다.[12]

아로라는 2017년 컨시어지 서비스에 대한 법적 분쟁에 반대했던 런던 벨그라비아 지역에 위치한 2급 테라스인 3–10 Grosvenor Crescent에 3개의 아파트를 소유하고 있다.[13]
