RARBG는 비트토렌트 프로토콜을 이용한 피어투피어 파일 공유가 용이하도록 토렌트 파일과 마그넷 링크를 제공하는 웹사이트다. 2014년부터 RARBG는 TorrentFreak이 매년 가장 많이 방문하는 Torrent Freak 웹사이트 목록에 반복적으로 등장했다.[1] 2021년 6월 현재 5위에 올랐다.[2] 그 웹사이트는 사용자들이 그들 자신의 급류를 올리는 것을 허용하지 않는다.[1]

역사

RARBG는 2008년에 설립되었다. 원래 불가리아 비트토렌트 트래커(이름에서 BG는 "Bulgaria"를 의미한다)로 착상된 이 웹사이트는 그 이후로 국제적인 청중들에게 서비스를 제공하고 있다. TorrentFreak에 따르면, RARBG는 영어 "고품질 비디오 릴리즈"를 전문으로 하지만 게임, 소프트웨어, 음악 등 다른 콘텐츠도 나열하고 있다.[1]

이 웹사이트는 미국 무역대표부(USTR)가 2019년 '공지시장'으로 기술한 바 있다.[3] 2020년 이 웹사이트는 불가리아 법 집행의 대상으로 등재되었다.[4]

차단 및 검열

RARBG는 일반적으로 저작권 침해의 용이성 때문에 법적 이유로 세계 여러 국가에서 차단된다.[1] 2008년 12월에는 브레인(BREIN)의 법적 압력으로 1주일 동안 사이트가 폐쇄된 상태를 유지했다.[5] 2017년 구글의 '카루셀' 검색 결과에서 토렌트 사이트 링크가 부각된 논란이 일자 구글 검색 결과에서 RARBG가 걸러졌다.[6][7] 해적의 개인정보를 요구하는 영화 스튜디오가 ISP 허리케인 일렉트릭을 상대로 제기한 소송으로, 허리케인 일렉트릭을 통해 운영되는 VPN인 소피데아 VPN은 2020년 12월 현재 RARBG를 포함한 여러 토렌트 사이트로의 접속을 차단했다.[8]
