올리버 드와이트 필리(Oliver Dwight Filley, 1806년 5월 23일 ~ 1881년 8월 21일)는 미국의 사업가, 폐지론자, 정치인으로, 제16대 성 시장을 지냈다. 1858년부터 1861년까지 미주리 주의 루이스.[1]

초년기

필리는 1806년 5월 23일 코네티컷주 블룸필드에서 태어났다. 그는 올리버 필리와 애니스(네네 험프리) 필리 사이에서 태어난 [2]6남 1녀 중 장남이었다.[3] 그의 형제로는 마르쿠스 루시우스 필리, 제이 험프리 필리, 조셉 얼 필리, 자일스 프랭클린 필리, 제넷 애니스 필리, 존 엘드리지 필리 등이 있었는데 [3][4][5]모두 두각을 나타냈다.[6]

경력

원래 필리는 '하드 머니 잭슨 민주당원'으로, 1821년부터 1851년까지 미주리주 출신의 민주당 상원의원 토머스 H. 벤튼의 개인적인 친구로, 매니페스트 데스티니로 알려지게 된 원인이다.[2] 윌못 프로비소가 멕시코 전쟁에서 멕시코로부터 획득한 영토에서 노예제도를 금지하자고 제안한 1840년대 후반,[9] 필리는 1848년 대선에서 자신이 마틴 반 뷰런을 지지하도록 이끌면서 자유토양과 미주리 해방을 전폭적으로 지지한다고 선언했다. 자유토양당은 결국 공화당에 흡수되었다.[2]

그는 세인트루이스의 첫 남북전쟁 시장이었다. 루이스와 그는 1859년의 새로운 도시 헌장에 따라 2년 임기의 첫 시장이 되었다.[10] 그는 그 자리에 앉기를 꺼렸다.[8] 시장 시절 국민안전위원회 위원장으로서 노조 정서를 고취하고 공고히 하기 위한 운동을 주도했다. 화재 경보 전신 시스템이 완성되어 그의 임기 중에 사용되기 시작했다.[11]

사생활

1835년 필리는 코네티컷 주 블룸피드에서 일라이 브라운의 딸 클로이 벨리나 브라운(1808–1890)과 결혼했다.[12][7][2] 세인트루이스에서는 가족이 2201 루카스 플레이스에 살면서 중앙장로교회에 참석했다.[12] 그들은 함께 다음과 같은 6명의 자녀를 둔 부모였다.[3]

필리는 1881년 8월 21일 뉴햄프셔 햄프턴에서 휴가를 보내던 중 급성 신장병으로 사망했다.[20] 그는 벨레폰테인 묘지에 묻혔다.[11]

후손

장남 올리버를 통해 올리버 드와이트 필리(1883~1961)의 할아버지였으며,[21] 하버드 졸업생이자 제1차 세계대전(미국이 전쟁에 참전하기 전) 당시 영국 공군에 자원한 조종사였으며, 1917년 퍼시 리빙턴 피네(b. 1893년)의 딸인 메리 퍼시 피네(b. 1893년)와 결혼했다.[22][23]

또 다른 손자는 드와이트 필리 데이비스(1879~1945)로, 캘빈 쿨리지 행정부에서 1925년 10월 14일부터 1929년 3월 4일까지 제49대 미국 전쟁장관, 이후 1929년부터 1932년까지 필리핀 총독을 지냈다.[24]
