시계 제조업체인 J. B. 조이스 앤 코는 영국의 Shropshire에 설립되었다.이 회사는 1690년에 처음 설립된 세계에서 가장 오래된 시계 제조업체라고 주장하고 있으며 1965년부터 더비 그룹의 스미스에 속해 있다.[1][2]이 주장은 1740년 이전부터 지속적인 제조를 해왔다고 주장하는 또 다른 시계 제조업체인 Thwaites & Reed의 영국 회사에 의해 도전받고 있으며, 이 회사는 1610년까지의 선례를 남겼다.

역사

William Joyce는 Cockshutt의 North Shropshire 마을에서 롱케이스 시계를 만들기 시작했다.가업은 아버지로부터 아들에게로 물려졌고 1790년 슈롭셔주 휘처치 하이 스트리트(High Street)로 옮겨갔다.1904년 J. B.조이스는 휘처치의 스테이션 로드로 이사했다.1834년 토마스 조이스는 지역 교회와 공공 건물을 위해 큰 시계를 만들었다.1849년에 그 회사는 그림소프 경이 디자인한 빅벤 탈출을 베꼈다.J. 1964년 조이스 가문의 마지막 멤버인 노먼 조이스가 은퇴하여 회사를 더비의 스미스에게 매각하였다.[6]1970년대에는 많은 기계식 시계들이 스미스 모회사가 만든 전기 모터를 사용하기 위해 바뀌었다.하지만, J.
