2016년 설립된 프랑스 생명공학기업 이노베이션피드 SAS가 곤충 사육 및 가공 공정을 개발한다. 동물 영양과 특히 양식업을 위해 곤충에서 유래한 성분을 판매한다.

이노바피드는 새로운 단백질 공급원의 생산을 통해 지속 가능한 양식 개발에 참여하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.[1][2] 포획 어업과 양식업에는 어류의 영양 요구에 적응한 단백질과 지질의 공급량이 증가해야 한다.[3][4]

InnovaFeed는 지역 생산 시스템을 설정하는 목표를 가지고 있다. 이것은 곤충을 먹이기 위해 농업 부산물을 독점적으로 사용함으로써 가능해져 천연자원 소비에 추가적인 영향을 주지 않는다.[5][6] 게다가, 곤충 배설물은 유기 비료로 평가된다.[7][8]

역사

창조

이노베이션피드는 클레멘트 레이, 기욤 그라스, 오데 궈, 바스티앙 오게리 등 4명의 엔지니어가 2016년 만든 것으로 대체 피드백을 찾는 것이 목표였다. 오늘날, 클레멘트 레이, 바스티앙 오게리, 오데 궈가 회사를 운영하고 있다.

산업배치

2016년 6월 이노바피드는 에브리사의 제노폴(Genopole)이라는 과학 허브에 가입해 여러 연구 개발 프로젝트를 추진하고 기술 개발을 가능하게 했다.[9] 2017년 10월부터 캠브레시스 지역 구즈아쿠르(프랑스59) 인근에 위치한 시범 생산 부대를 운영해 산업 규모 공정 검증과 제품 상용화에 나서고 있다.

이노바피드는 2018년 9월 27일 네슬레에 연간 1만t의 곤충 단백질 용량을 갖춘 새로운 생산지 건설을 공개적으로 발표했다.[10] 이 미래 생산 단위는 부산물 업사이클링, 에너지, 물류 절감이라는 두 현장 간 산업 시너지를 내기 위해 테레오스 그룹의 전분 제조 옆에 시행될 예정이다. 2019년 5월 21일 월요일, 네슬레 터의 기초석이 놓였다.[11][12]

이노바피드는 2022년까지 네슬레 부지와 같은 모델에 5개의 새로운 공장이 배치될 것이라고 발표했다.[13]

자금조달

이노바피드는 2018년 2월 중순 1차 펀딩 라운드를 통해 사회·환경적으로 큰 어려움을 겪고 있는 기업에 투자하는 펀드인 알터이퀴티(AtterEquity)가 이끄는 투자자 그룹으로부터 1500만 유로를 확보할 수 있었다.[14][15]

2018년 11월 이노바피드는 2차 자금 지원을 완료했다고 발표해 4000만 유로를 추가로 확보했다.[13] 이 거래에는 크레데프가 이끄는 유럽과 아시아 투자자들이 참여했다. 이 투자는 여러 새로운 생산 현장에서 InnovaFeed의 산업 개발을 지원하고 가속화할 뿐만 아니라 팀을 강화할 수 있게 될 것이다.

비즈니스 개발

2017년 이노바피드는 프랑스 유통업체 아우찬과 손잡고 곤충 사료용 생선을 납품할 수 있는 새로운 가치사슬 개발에 협력했다.[16]

아우찬은 먼저 프랑스 양식업의 상징적인 종인 송어 산업에 접근했다. 2018년 6월, 첫 곤충 사료 송어가 시험의 일환으로 아우찬 소매 프랑스 매장에서 상용화되었다. 2018년 7월 3일, 곤충 단백질 기반 사료를 먹인 최초의 송어 시식회가 아우찬 소매 프랑스와 제휴하여 조직되었다. 송어를 준비한 하츠 드 루아르 도메인의 두 미슐랭 스타 셰프 레미 지로우는 "곤충을 먹인 송어는 보존력이 더 좋고, 내구성이 더 좋은 고기"라고 말했다[17]. 그리고 맛을 위해서는 곤충을 먹인 것이 훨씬 우수하고 입안에 식감이 뛰어나다고 말했다. '곤충 먹이' 송어는 2018년 11월부터 일드프랑스 및 노르드 리토랄 지역의 52개 아우찬 매장에서 지속적으로 판매되고 있으며, 2019년 말까지 프랑스의 나머지 지역으로 사업 범위를 확대할 계획이다.[18]

이 접근방식은 아우찬 소매업 프랑스가 참조한 InnovaFeed, 어류 사료 제조업체 및 어류 농업인 간의 협업의 결과였다.

기술

이노바피드 과정에 사용되는 곤충은 흑사병파리(Hermetia allucens)의 유충이다.[19]

이 곤충 종은 인간에게 병원체를 전달하지 않고 공격성이 없기 때문에 유럽위원회의 동물 사료 사육 승인을 받았다.[20][21][22]

번식기술

곤충에게 먹이를 주는 데 사용되는 부산물은 추가적인 천연자원의 소비를 발생시키지 않으며 인간의 식량과 경쟁하지 않는다. 곤충 배설물은 지역 유기농 농업의 천연 비료로 사용된다.[8]
