할데인은 달의 동쪽 사지에 가까운 마레 스미티(Mare Smythii)에 위치한 달 충돌 분화구다.이러한 형성의 가시성은 천칭에 의해 영향을 받고, 유리한 조건에서도 매우 짧아진다.그것은 룬게 분화구의 서북서쪽, 카리요 동쪽에 놓여 있다.

이 층의 내부는 용암으로 범람하여 달의 암말을 통해 낮은 테두리만 솟아오르고 있다.이 테두리는 서북면을 따라 부서져 내부로 틈이 남는다.안쪽 바닥의 동쪽 절반에는 외벽과 동심인 반원형의 특징이 있다.또한 내부 중간 지점의 동쪽에 낮은 중앙 능선 상쇄가 있다.

Haldane은 Mare Smythi에 있는 많은 골절층 분화구의 다소 극단적인 예다.[1]

Haldane의 깊이는 북서 사분면의 바닥에서 가장 낮은 지점에서 바깥 테의 남서쪽에서 가장 높은 지점까지 약 900m이다.[2]
