GCIRS 16SW는 S97로도 알려져 있으며 은하중심부에 위치한 접촉 이진성이다.그것은 19.5일의 기간으로 서로 공전하는 같은 크기의 두 개의 뜨거운 거대한 별들로 구성되어 있다.별은 너무 가까워서 대기가 겹치고, 두 별은 적외선 파장에서 0.35의 밝기만큼 다양한 에클립싱 이진을 형성한다.[6]

GCIRS 16SW 궤도는 약 19,000 AU에서 Sagittarius A*이며, 기간은 약 1,270년이다.[5]약 50개의 태양 질량의 별의 추정 질량에서, 그들은 약 400만 년의 수명을 가질 것으로 예측되며, 이는 이 시스템이 더 먼 거리에서 안으로 이동하는 대신, 사지타리우스 A*의 0.1 파섹(0.33 ly; 21,000 AU) 내에서 형성되었음을 나타낸다.[6]

GCIRS 16SW는 스펙트럼과 물리적 특성에 기초하여 후보 발광 블루 변수로 분류되었다.[8]이것은 에클립싱 바이너리로 식별되기 전이었지만, 여전히 후보 LBV로 취급되고 있다.[9]
