2021년 에어드리·쇼트 보궐선거는 2021년 스코틀랜드 의회 선거에서 해당 의석에 출마하기 위해 현직 의원(MP)인 닐 그레이가 사퇴한 데 이어 영국 의회 선거구 에어드리·쇼트 지역에서 치러졌다.[1]Drie and Shotts)에서 치러졌다. 이것은 스코틀랜드 국민당(SNP)이 MSP와 하원의원을 동시에 앉히는 것을 금지하는 규정에 의해 필요했다. 스코틀랜드 의회 선거 일주일 뒤인 2021년 5월 13일 COVID-19 전송 위험을 줄이기 위해 실시됐다.[2]

배경

에어드리 앤 숏츠는 일반적으로 노동자 계급이며 도시적인 좌석으로 에어드리, 칼더뱅크, 채플홀, 글렌마비스, 숏츠의 마을을 포함한다. 이전 하원의원들 중에는 헬렌 리델 전 노동당 각료와 존 레이드 전 하원의원이 포함되어 있다.[3]

닐 그레이는 2015년 영국 총선에서 에어드리·쇼트 소속 스코틀랜드 국민당(SNP) 하원의원에 당선돼 2017년과 2019년 모두 재선됐다. 2020년 11월 그레이는 2021년 스코틀랜드 의회 선거에서 같은 이름의 홀리루드 선거구에서 의석을 차지하기 위해 하원의원직을 사임하겠다고 발표했다.[4] 2021년 3월 23일, 하원에서 마지막 연설을 하였고,[5] 하루 뒤 노스스테드의 마노르의 스튜어드·베이리프(Steward and Bailiff)로 임명되었다.[1]

후보

조나단 스탠리는 이미 2020년 9월에 있을 에어드리와 쇼츠 보궐선거의 스코틀랜드 유니온주의 정당 후보로 발표되었다.[6]

2021년 3월 18일 SNP의 보궐선거 후보로 아눔 카이사르가 선출되었다. 그녀는 적어도 2014년까지 노동당원이었고, 무슬림 프렌즈 오브 노동당의 총무 비서였다. 그녀는 이전에 SNP MSP의 사례 연구원과 SNP MP의 의회 연구원으로 일한 적이 있다. 출마 선언 당시 그녀는 현대학 교사였다.[7][8][9]

2021년 3월 25일, 케네스 스티븐슨 의원은 스코틀랜드 노동당에 의해 보궐선거에 출마하기 위해 선출되었다. 그는 선거구에서 전직 하원의원이자 연합에서 스코틀랜드의 최고 경영자인 파멜라 내쉬를 물리쳤다.[10][11]
