큰곰자리 XY는 큰곰자리의 짧은 주기 쌍성계이다.이 별은 일식 쌍성으로 겉보기 등급은 9.[3]50입니다.이 시스템은 시차 [2]측정치에 근거해 태양으로부터 221.5광년 거리에 위치해 있지만, -10km/[6]s의 반경 속도로 더 가까이 표류하고 있다.이것은 0.191µ·yr의−1 [10]각도로 천체를 가로지르는 비교적 높은 고유 운동을 가지고 있다.

이 계의 변동성은 W. Strohmeier에 의해 발견되었고,[11] 그 기간은 1955년에 발표된 R. Kippenhahn에 의해 결정되었다.이 행성은 분리된 일식 쌍성계로 밝혀졌으며 1963년에는 가변적인 1차 성분이 발견되었다.[12]E. H. 가이어는 1975년까지 [11]간헐적인 광선곡선 연구를 실시하여 광선곡선의 변동성을 주성분에서의 별점 활동 탓으로 돌렸다.쌍성의 궤도 주기는 0.479 [13]d로 결정되었으며,[8] 궤도면은 지구에서 본 시선에 대해 79.84°의 각도로 기울어져 있었다.
