순다리는 M. D. Gunasena & Company의 일부인 인디펜던트 신문사가 발행한 스리랑카의 타밀어 주간지였다.[1] 1973년에 창간되어 콜롬보에서 간행되었다.[1] 1973년에는 평균 1,000부 판매 부수를 기록했다.[1]

1973/74년까지 독립신문 출판물은 시리마보 반다라나이케 정부의 비판적인 목소리가 되었다.[2] 정부는 1974년 4월 19일 '비상사태(방어)' 규정을 이용해 독립신문사의 언론을 봉쇄하고 폐쇄했다.[3][4][5][6][7] 독립신문사는 1977년 3월 30일 발행 재개했지만 3년간의 폐간으로 큰 타격을 입었다.[3][4][8] 재정적인 문제로 인디펜던트 신문과 그 다양한 출판물은 1990년 12월 26일에 폐간되었다.[9][10]
