Sh2-54는 세르펜스 별자리에 있는 확장된 밝은 성운이다.[1]

그것의 중심에는 많은 원자와 적외선원이 있다; IRAS 18151-1208과 같은 이 원천들 중 일부는 아마도 매우 젊은 고질량 별일 것이다.[4]이 지역의 노령별 인구는 평균 4~5백만 살이며, 그 성분은 개방성 군집 NGC 6604에 그룹화되어 있다.[2]

Sh2-54는 독수리 성운과 오메가 성운도 포함하는 확장된 성운에 속한다.[5]이 지역의 젊은 고질량 별들은 서펜스 OB1과 서펜스 OB2 OB 협회를 구성하고 있다.[2]
