프리엠네시움은 프리엠네시움 파르툼 종을 포함한 합생식물들의 속이다.[1] 그 속은 단세포 운동성 알가이다. 그것은 타원형이다. 하나의 편평형은 곧고 두개의 긴 편평형이 있다.[2]
라틴어라는 이름은 그리스어로 'cable(계류용)',[3][4] primna 'stern'에서, primnos 'hindmost'에서 유래했다.[5][self-published source]
