정형외과(Orthaspidotherium)는 초기 초식성 포유류인 플뢰라스피도테리과(Pleuraspidotherriae과)의 유럽 팔레오세 속이다.[1]1921~1922년 테일하르트 데 샤르딘에 의해 메니스코테리과(Meniscotherriae)에 포함되었고, 이후 플레우라스피디테리과(Pleuraspidotherriae)로 분리되어 페나코돈과(Penacodontae)과에 편입되었다.[2]O. 에드워드시의 첫 번째 완전한 두개골은 2010년에 설명되었고, 같은 종이가 다시 한번 그것을 플레라스피도테리과에 놓았다.[1][3]2017년 연구는 이러한 관점을 더욱 반복한다.[4]
