NGC 498은 지구에서 약 2억 6천만 광년 떨어진 곳에 위치한 렌티컬 은하로,[2] 물고기자리에 있다.[3] NGC 498은 1856년 10월 23일 천문학자인 R. J. Mitchell에 의해 발견되었다.[4]
NGC 498은 페르세우스-피스 슈퍼클러스터의 일부인 NGC 507 그룹의[5] 구성원이다.[6][7]
