NGC 3281은 앤틀리아 남쪽 별자리에 있는 큰 무제한 나선은하로[5] 은하로부터 144.7 메가라이트의[2] 거리에 위치해 있다.은하는 지구로부터 시선의 64° 각도로 기울어져 있으며, 주요 축은 137°[6]의 위치 각도로 정렬되어 있다.그것은 발광 적외선 은하와 타입 II 세이페르트 은하다.[7]NGC 3281은 하이드라-센타우루스 슈퍼클러스터에 속하는 앤틀리아 클러스터의 일원이다.[3]
