레바 파텔(Leva Patel)은 인도의 파티다르 지방에 위치한 파티다르의 하위 카스테입니다. 카다바스와 같은 다른 파티다르 하위 계급에 비해 상업, 교육 및 생산자 협동조합에서 더 많은 부와 지위를 장악했습니다.[1][2]
기원.
레바 파텔스는 구자라트의 케다 지역인 카타 비스타 탈루카 바차우 질로 쿠치-부즈 구자라트에서 슈드라로 유래했습니다.[3][4] 펀자브에서 온 이주자, 쿠샨족을 탈출한 이주자, 아요디아에서 온 이주자, 또는 구르자라의 후나스에서 내려온 이주자 등 그들의 기원에 관한 다양한 유명한 전설이 있습니다. 그러나, 이러한 전설들은 신뢰성이 의심스럽고, 전통의 발명의 한 예입니다.[5] 이러한 전통 중 가장 유명한 것은 레바스가 힌두교 서사시 라마야나에 나오는 라마 신의 아들인 라바의 후손이라는 것입니다.[6][7] 레바스인들은 그들의 이름이 라바에서 유래했다고 주장하지만, 사실은 나르마다 강의 지역 이름인 레바의 부패입니다.[8]
19세기와 20세기에, 많은 레바 파텔들이 남아프리카, 미국, 캐나다 그리고 영국과 같은 다른 나라들로 이주했습니다. 인도 내에서 그들은 구자라트에서 마하라슈트라, 라자스탄, 안드라프라데시, 서벵골, 마디아프라데시와 같은 다른 주로 이주했습니다.[5]
