제럴드 L. 브래디(Gerald L. Brady, 1956년 7월 9일 출생)는 2007년부터 2022년까지 4구역을 대표하는 델라웨어 하원 민주당 의원을 지낸 미국의 정치인이다.[3]2006년 공화당의 조지프 디핀토 전 총리의 퇴임 후 당선됐다.[4]

브래디는 외상 후 스트레스 장애를 앓고 있다며 2022년 2월 공직에서 물러났다.사의 표명은 그가 아시아계 미국인들에 대한 인종적 비방뿐 아니라 들치기 수사도 하고 있다는 유출된 이메일이 퍼진 데 따른 것이다.[5]

조기생활과 교육

브래디는 Salesianum School과 King's College를 졸업했다.그는 1981년부터 근무해 온 델라웨어 육군 주방위군 소속의 최고영장 4명과 이라크 자유 작전 및 대테러 반전전쟁 참전용사다.[6]

논란

인종적 비방 사용

브래디는 2021년 6월 인종차별적이고 여성혐오적인 용어인 '칭크 브로드'를 사용하는 성노동자들을 지칭했다.[7]이 단어들은 이메일에 사용되었고, 2021년 애틀랜타 스파 총격으로 아시아 여성 6명 중 8명이 사망했을 때 몇 달 전 국민적 관심이 집중되었던 COVID-19 대유행 때 미국에서 반 아시아 감정이 고조되는 가운데 보내졌다.브래디의 이메일에 대한 일부 비판은 아시아계 미국 여성에 대한 인종차별주의와 성차별주의가 종종 얽혀 있다는 점을 지적하면서 반아시아적 비방과 여성혐오적 용어를 동시에 사용하는 것에 주목했다.[8]브래디는 연임하지 않겠다고 발표했지만 사라 맥브라이드 주 상원의원과 마디나 윌슨 앤턴 주 하원의원은 그에게 사퇴를 요구했다.[9]

이 발언에 대해 리즈 슐러 AFL-CIO 사장은 브래디가 2003년부터 맡아온 직책인 델라웨어 주 AFL-CIO 전무직의 사퇴를 요구했다.[10][11]2022년 1월 22일, 브래디는 1월 31일부터 의원직을 사임할 것이라고 발표했다.[12]

2022년 1월 체포

2022년 1월 25일, 브래디는 뉴어크 경찰에 체포되어 두 건의 가게 물건을 훔친 혐의로 기소되었다.[13]브래디는 2021년 12월 29일 Acme에서 장작이 가득 든 쇼핑 카트를 훔쳤다.2022년 1월 12일 같은 장소에서 더 많은 물건을 훔치려 했지만 이번에는 매장 직원과 마주쳤다.

선거사

  • 2006년 브래디는 민주당 경선에서 746표(50.2%)[14]로 승리했고, 이후 게리 리나두치 공화당 후보를 상대로 4053표(55.0%)를 얻어 총선에 진출했다.[15]
  • 2008년 브래디는 자유당 후보로도 자격을 갖추고 표를 받은 타일러 닉슨 공화당 후보를 상대로 7,174표(73.4%)를 얻어 총선에서 승리했다.[16]
  • 2010년 브래디는 공화당 후보 리처드 캐롤을 상대로 5298표(65.8%)를 얻어 총선에서 승리했다.[17]
  • 2012년 브래디는 9133표를 얻어 총선에 반대하지 않았다.[18]
  • 2014년 브래디는 로버트 키슬러 공화당 후보를 상대로 4356명(59.7%)의 득표율로 총선에서 승리했다.[19]
  • 2016년 브래디는 총선에 반대하지 않아 9565표를 얻었다.[20]
  • 2018년 브래디는 8512표를 얻어 총선에 반대하지 않았다.[21]
