미국은 카리브해 소국들을 위해 데멘 스탠 2606 초계함 디자인을 바탕으로 13척의 소형 경비정을 건조해 데미안트급으로 불릴 계획이다.[1][2][3]선박 건조에서 감독 역할을 하게 될 미 해군도 이 설계를 근해 경비함이라고 부른다.5400만 달러 계약은 루이지애나 주 메탈 샤크 보트에 낙찰되었다.[4]

파트너 국가로는 도미니카 공화국, 엘살바도르, 온두라스, 파나마, 과테말라가 포함될 것이다.[5][6]

다멘 2606 디자인을 바탕으로 한 미 해안경비대의 매우 성공적인 해상수호대처럼, 디펜던트급 함정에도 근엄한 발사 램프가 장착될 것이다.[7][8][9]

이 선박들은 해병대 보호대와 비슷한 10명 이상의 선원을 수용할 수 있을 것이다.[3]이 선박은 C32 캐터필러 2,000 샤프트 마력(1,500kW) 디젤 엔진 한 쌍에 의해 동력을 공급받게 된다.
