바이타엘루스는 깊은 물속 캣샤크의 속이고 스키리오르히니과의 일부분이다.바이타엘루루스 컴파그노 1988이라는 속은 얇은 피부를 가진 부드러운 몸통, 뾰족하고 손잡이 같은 끝이 없는 퉁명스럽게 둥근 코, 그리고 머리의 등지 표면에서 눈에 띄게 높아지지 않는 눈을 포함한 몇 가지 형태학적 특성에 기초하여 할라엘루루스 길 1862년의 하위 유전자로 처음 설명되었다.이 종의 구성원들은 일반적으로 깊은 물에서 발견되며 더 침울한 체색을 가지고 있다.[1]
