AOL TV는 (모니터가 아닌) 디스플레이를 위해 텔레비전을 사용하는 씬 클라이언트의 이름과 이를 지원하는 온라인 서비스의 명칭으로, 둘 다 웹TV와 경쟁하기 위해 2000년 6월에 출시되었다.
제품과 서비스는 America Online에 의해 개발되었다. 1990년대 중반 개발된 대부분의 씬 클라이언트가 기업 인트라넷을 위한 디스크리스 워크스테이션으로 포지셔닝된 반면, AOL TV는 웹 접속을 위한 소비자 장치로 포지셔닝되었다. 이 장치는 전용 웹 브라우저 어플라이언스였기 때문에 독점 운영 체제 라이센스 비용은 피할 수 있었다. 저렴한 장치의 경우 독점적 운영체제 라이센스 비용이 상당하다.
AOL TV 셋톱박스는 NCI/Liberate가 씬 클라이언트를 이용해 개발하고 필립스가 제조했다.[1][2][3]
AOL TV는 한 동안 기존 가입자들이 이용할 수 있었지만 2002년 11월 판매를 중단했다.[4] 이 서비스는 더 이상 AOL에서 지원되지 않으며 해당 서버에서 문서가 제거되었다.
