2017 파인걸 리더십 선거는 2017년 5월 엔다 케니가 당 대표직을 사퇴하면서 촉발됐다. 2017년 5월 29일 파인 가엘과 영 파인 가엘 멤버들의 투표가 시작됐다. 6월 2일 레오 바라드카르가 경쟁자인 시몬 코비니를 누르고 승리자로 발표되었다.[1] 파인 가엘이 당시 집권당이었던 상황에서 이번 선거는 사실상 아일랜드에 새로운 도이세아치를 임명했다.

선거제는 파인 가엘 당원과 파인 가엘 참의원, 파인 가엘 당원의 선거인단이었다. 결과는 2017년 6월 2일 특별회의에서 의회가 표결을 하면서 발표됐다.[2] 바라드카르는 결과 발표 즉시 파인 가엘의 지도자가 되었지만, 즉시 도이세치의 관직을 맡지는 않았다.[3] 6월 13일 파인 갤 의회 회의에서, 그는 2위 시몬 코벤지가 당의 부대표로 임명될 것이라고 발표했다.[4]

바라드카르는 대통령이 6월 14일 다일 에이어란에서 투표로 지명한 후 도이세아흐 지사에 임명되었다.[5] 그는 아일랜드의 최연소 도이세히가 되었고, 공공연히 동성애를 하는 첫 번째 사람이 되었다.[6] 바라드카르는 혼혈인으로서 인도 태생 중 처음으로 도이세아치의 역할을 맡은 인물이다.[7]

배경

Enda Kenny는 2002년부터 Fine Gael의 리더였고, 초대 야당 지도자로, 그리고 2011년 총선에 이어 도이세아흐를 역임했다. 2016년 총선거에서 파인걸은 의석을 잃었고, 노동당 연합 파트너들은 상당히 감소했다. 이러한 손실에도 불구하고 케니는 뜻밖에도 새로운 소수민족 연합정부를 구성할 수 있었다. 케니는 가르다 내부고발자 스캔들 처리에 대한 비판에 약해졌고, RTE.ie의 분석에 따르면, 선거가 임박해서 그의 사임 요구가 있을 수 있는 시점에 그의 당에 선거의 책임이었다.[8]

파인 가엘의 헌법과 규칙[16] 49조는 지도자 선발대회는 선거인단에 의해 결정된다고 명시하고 있다.[17] 이 규칙들은 엔다 케니가 지도부를 맡은 후 2002년에 발효되었고, 레오 바라드카르가 제안한 동의의 결과로 생겨났다. 이는 이번이 첫 파인 가엘 선거였다는 것을 의미한다. 선거인단 투표는 다음과 같이 할당된다.

투표 당시 의회 정당은 73명(TD 50명, 상원의원 19명, MEP 4명)으로 구성됐다. 약 2만1000명의 당원이 있었고 파인 가엘은 232명의 참의원, 3명의 우다라스 나엘타 의원 등 235명의 지역대표를 가지고 있었다.

후보자들은 10%의 의원정당의 서명, 즉 8명의 서명을 필요로 했다.

당원들은 투표할 자격이 있으려면 최소한 2년 동안 소속되어 있어야 했다.

결과

의회가 65%를 차지하고, 일반 파인 가엘 의원이 25%를 차지하며, 나머지 10%는 파인 가엘 지역대표에 배분된다.[17]
