프레데터 FLNG는 로열더치셸이 소유하고 있고 로열더치셸과 코가스, 인펙스 등이 합작해 국내 테크닙-삼성 컨소시엄(TSC)이 구축한 부유식 액화천연가스 플랫폼이다.[3][4] 선체는 2013년 12월 발사됐다.[5]

길이 488m(1,601ft), 폭 74m(243ft)이며, 26만t 이상의 강철로 만들어졌다.[6] 이 선박은 만재 시 60만t 내외를 대체해 니미츠급 항공모함보다 5배 이상 많다.[7] 세계 최대 규모의 부유식 액화천연가스(LNG) 플랫폼이자 지금까지 건설된 해상시설 중 최대 규모다.

건설

주요 이중골조 구조물은 한국 삼성중공업 거제조선소에 테크닙삼성컨소시엄이 시공했다. 2012년 10월 하부구조용 금속이 최초로 절단되면서 공사가 공식 시작됐다. Turret Mooring System은 SBM에 하청되어 아랍에미리트(UAE)의 Drydocks World Dubai에 건설되었다. 노르웨이의 피오르드 프로세싱(Fjords Processing Norway)에 의해 한국에 건설된 MEG 재활용 유닛은 탑사이드 모듈 중 유일하게 하청이다. 해저 유정 등 다른 장비도 세계 각지에 건설되고 있다. 상부구조(accommodation and process plant)가 없는 상태로 2013년 11월 30일에 출범했다.[8]

이 선박은 포탑에 의해 각각 길이 65미터, 지름 5.5미터의 해저 구동 철재 16개에 계류되어 있다.

해저 장비는 FMC 테크놀로지가 짓고 있으며, 에머슨은 자동화 시스템과 무정전 전원 공급 시스템의 주요 공급 업체다.[9] 2015년 7월까지 14개 가스플랜트 모듈이 모두 설치됐다.[10]

비용 및 자금조달성

Preparation FLNG는 2011년 Shell에 의해 자금 지원 승인을 받았다.[11]

분석가들은 2013년 선박 비용에 대한 추정치가 미화 108억 달러에서 126억 달러 사이였다고 말했다.[5] 셸은 2014년 이 프로젝트에 백만 톤당 최대 35억 달러의 생산 비용이 들 것으로 추산했다. 유압파쇄기술로 인한 북미 가스전의 장기생산능력 증가와 러시아 수출역량 증가로 인한 경쟁압력은 2011년 기대했던 것보다 실제 수익성을 떨어뜨릴 수 있다.[11] 2021년 WAToday 뉴스 웹사이트는 Shell이 실제 비용을 확인한 적은 없지만 적어도 175억 달러의 비용이 든 것으로 생각된다고 보도했다.[12]

운영

Predefresh FLNG 시스템은 호주 해안에서 200km(120mi)[9] 떨어진 Browse LNG 분지의 Predefirat and Concerto 가스전에서 사용하기 위해 구축되었으며 2016년부터 시추와 가스 생산이 시작될 계획이었다.[5][11] 이 시스템은 25년의 계획수명을 가지고 있다.[13] 전주곡과 협주곡 분야는 연간 530만톤의 액체와 콘덴세이트를 생산할 것으로 예상된다. 여기에는 360만톤의 액화천연가스, 130만톤의 응축수, 40만톤의 액화석유가스가 포함된다.[14]

천연가스는 우물에서 추출해 -162℃(-260℃)로 냉각시켜 액화한다.[14] LNG를 대형 LNG 운반선에 생산·하역할 수 있는 능력은 중요한 혁신으로 비용을 절감하고 육상 LNG 처리장으로 가는 긴 파이프라인의 필요성을 없앤다. 그러나 모든 장비를 하나의 부유식 설비에 장착하는 것은 큰 도전이었다.

이 시스템은 5등급 사이클론에도 견딜 수 있도록 설계되었지만,[4] EC225 구조 헬기에 탑승하기 전에 작업자들이 대피할 수 있다.[15] 계획에 따르면, 하루 11만 BOE를 생산할 것이다.[16]

2017년 7월 25일, 한국의 건설 현장에서 5,800 km(3,600 mi)의 여정을 마치고 서호주 해역에 도착하였다. 2018년에 가동될 것으로 예상되었다.[17][18] 2018년 12월 26일, 로열 더치 쉘은 프러포트에서 초기 생산이 시작되었다고 발표했다. Shell은 우물이 열렸고 시운전과 램프업 단계가 진행 중이라고 말했다.[19]

전주곡은 전기적 문제가 보고된 후 2020년 2월에 폐쇄되었다. 이 플랫폼은 이전에 의도치 않게 가스가 방출되는 사고를 두 번 겪은 적이 있는데, 이는 NOPSEMA가 "위험하다"[20]고 기술한 것이다. 2021년 1월 생산을 재개했다.[21] 2021년에 걸쳐 꾸준히 LNG를 생산했다.[12]

2021년 12월 2일 작은 화재로 선박의 전기 공급이 차질을 빚었다. 이로 인해 제작이 중단되고 대부분의 제작진이 대피하게 되었다.[12][22]

2014년 셸 트레이드 쇼를 위해 프러포드의 레고 모델이 만들어졌다.[23] 거의 5미터 길이의 이 모델은 현재 Shell's Perth 본사의 포이어에 거주하고 있다.
