S Tel Private Limited는 인도의 GSM 기반 셀룰러 운영자였다. 치나카난 시바산카란(51%)과 바레인 통신(49%)[1]이 공동 소유했다. 2012년 2월 2일, 인도 대법원은 전 통신 장관 A Raja의 재임 기간 동안 허가된 122개의 주파수 면허를 모두 취소했다. 에스텔의 라이선스 6개가 취소됐고 바텔코는 에스텔 지분을 매각했다. 매각은 2012년 말에 완료되었다.[2]

2012년 2월 2일, 인도 대법원은 S Tel에 부여된 6개의 면허를 포함하여, 전 통신 장관 A Raja의 재임 기간 동안 부여된 122개의 주파수 면허를 모두 취소했다.[3][4] 인도 대법원은 또 S텔에 50라흐의 벌금을 부과했다.[5][6]

바텔코는 대법원 판결 며칠 뒤인 2012년 2월 8일 인도 스카이시티재단(STel City Foundation Ltd) 지분 42.7%를 바레인리 디나르(미화 1억7,450만달러)에 매각했다.[7][8] Batelco's Group Chief Executive Shaikh Mohamed bin Isa Al Khalifa said in a statement, "BMIC Limited, a 100 per cent Batelco-owned subsidiary company, entered into an agreement, in the fourth quarter of 2011 to sell its 42.7 per cent stake in S Tel for USD 174.5 million to its Indian partner, Sky City Foundation Limited".[3] 매각은 2012년 10월말까지 완료될 예정이었다.[9]

현재 상태

S Tel 서비스는 2012년 2월 17일 6개의 UAS 면허가 취소된 이후 인도에서 더 이상 이용할 수 없다. 2012년 2월 29일, S Tel의 보스 시바산카란은 만모한 싱 전 인도 총리에게 자신의 면허를 포기하겠다고 제안하면서 Rs. 1700 크로어의 투자를 요구했다고 보고되었다.[10]
