례의 아프리카 공동묘지로도 알려진 례 아프리카계 미국인 묘지는 뉴욕 례의 노스 스트리트에 있는 역사적인 1.4에이커의 묘지다[2].1860년 언더힐 가문의 토지 기부를 통해 "이후 영원히 례 마을의 유색인 거주자들을 위한 공동묘지나 묘지의 목적으로 보존, 수용, 사용되어야 한다"는 취지로 지역 아프리카계 미국인들의 묘지로 설립되었다.[4]그곳에 묻힌 사람 중 적어도 35명은 20대 미국 유색 보병 연대에서 복무한 남자들을 포함한 미국 참전용사들이다.묘지에서 마지막으로 기록된 장례식은 1964년이었다.

이 묘지는 2003년에 국립 사적지에 추가되었다.[5]2004년에는 스토니 힐 묘지, 빌라 르와로, 제이 에스테이트 등 14개 유적지로 구성된 웨스트체스터 카운티의 아프리카계 미국 유산 트레일에 추가되었다.[6]

스튜어드십

공동묘지는 비영리단체인 려아프리카계 미국인 묘지의 친구들(Friends of the Rye African-American stem[7])과 그 곳에 묻힌 사람들의 후손들, 그리고 지역 국가 조치계획 지부가 관리하고 복구하고 있다.프렌즈는 2010년부터[8] 보존 작업을 주도해 왔으며, 2021년 프렌즈 오브 려 아프리카 아메리카 묘지, 세계 기념물 기금, 제이 헤리티지 센터, 우드론 음악원 등이 공동으로 40개 이상의 돌을 보존했다.[9]보존 노력은 새로운 연방 정부 기념일에 맞춰 시작되었다.

려아프리카계 미국인 묘지는 그린우드 유니온 묘지 남서쪽 옆에 위치해 있으며 그린우드 유니온 정문을 통해 접근이 가능하다.분묘지로서의 입지 및 정체성 강화를 위한 새로운 간판이 활성화 노력의 일환으로 2021년에 설치되었다.[10]
