토론토 대주교는 토론토 로마 가톨릭 대교구의 수장으로, 토론토의 정신적, 행정적 욕구를 돌보는 역할을 담당한다.대교구는 서던 온타리오 주와 노스웨스턴 온타리오 주를 아우르는 교회성 지방의 메트로폴리탄 광경인 만큼 토론토 대주교는 해밀턴, 런던, 세인트캐서린스, 썬더베이의 서드라간 교구를 관장하는 주교들도 관리한다.[1]현재 대주교는 토마스 크리스토퍼 콜린스다.

대교구는 1841년 12월 17일에 만들어진 토론토 교구로 시작되었다.[2][3]마이클 파워는 초대 주교로 임명되었고, 그의 통치하에 성(聖)의 건설이 이루어졌다. 힘 그 자신이 새 교회의 초석을 놓은 가운데 마이클 대성당이 시작되었다.[3][4]1870년 3월 18일 제1차 바티칸 평의회가 회기 중인 가운데 교황 비오 9세에 의해 교구가 대교구의 지위로 격상되었다.[A]존 조셉 린치는 새로 생긴 메트로폴리탄의 첫 대주교가 되었고,[3][6][7] 평의회에 참석하기 위해 로마에 체류하는 동안 팔륨을 받았다.[7]

10명의 남자가 토론토의 대주교였고, 다른 2명은 전임 교구의 주교였다.제임스 맥기건, 제럴드 에멧 카터, 알로이시우스 암브로지치, 토마스 크리스토퍼 콜린스 등 4명의 대주교가 추기경대학으로 승격되었다.[8]대교구의 첫 번째 평범함인 파워 역시 캐나다에서 태어난 최초의 영어권 주교였다.[9]데니스 오코너는 1899년부터 1908년까지의 성공회였으며 온타리오에서 태어난 최초의 대주교였다.[10]1946년 맥기건이 추기경으로 즉위하자 캐나다 최초의 앵글로폰 추기경,[10][11] 대교구 최초의 추기경이 되었다.[12]그는 또한 토론토 대주교로 가장 오래 재임하여 1934년부터 1971년까지 36년간 재임했으며, 퍼거스 맥이베이는 3년(1908–1911) 동안 재임하여 가장 짧은 고고학으로 기록되었다.[9]
