로버트 게스트리어 골레(GuH-LET;[1] 1923년 9월 28일 ~ 2019년 10월 9일)는 미국의 저명한 자선가였으며 골레 가문이 1824년에 설립한 케미컬 뱅크의 전 임원이다.[2]

초년기

골렛은 1923년 9월 28일 프랑스 암블레인빌의 한 성당에서 태어났다. 앤 마리(네 게스트리어) 골레의 아들로, 그의 가족은 와인 상인(바튼 & 게스트리어)이며 1만 에이커의 샤토(chateau)를 소유하고 있었다.[3] 그의 어머니는 프랑스인이었고 그의 아버지는 미국인이었다. 뉴욕 리츠칼튼호텔을 소유했던 그의 아버지는 1941년 사망 후 하버드대에 호텔을 기증했다.[4]

프랑스에서 태어난 골렛은 12살에 뉴욕으로 건너가 매사추세츠주 노스앤도버에 있는 브룩스 학교에 다녔고 1945년에 하버드 대학교에서 역사학 학사 학위를 받고 졸업했다.[5]

경력

제2차 세계대전 당시 괴렛은 미 해군과 함께 헬디버 폭격기 조종사로 훈련했지만 전투를 보지 못했다. 이후 미 해군 예비역 중위로 복무했다.[6][7] 골렛은 뉴욕 시의회 의원으로도 활동했다.[8]

골렛은 425번지 파크 애비뉴에 본사를 둔 골렛 리얼티 사와 로드아일랜드 사의 사장을 역임했다.[9][10] 1952년, 그는 1824년 선조인 피터 골렛이 설립한 케미컬 뱅크(현재의 JPMorgan Chase & Co.)의 이사로 선출되었다.[11] 그는 또한 프랑스 연합 프랑수아즈, 국립 오듀본 협회, 카네기 과학 연구소, 핍스 하우스 이사회에서 활동했다. 1957년 중앙정보국(CIA)이 출자한 민간 항공 차터 회사인 에어아메리카의 이사가 되었다.[1]

사생활

1976년 9월 52세의 골렛은 가디너스 섬에서 Barnard College와 Yale School of Imperature & Environmental Studies, Alexandra Gardiner Creel (b. 1940)을 졸업한 전 데뷔자와 결혼했다.[5] 크리엘은 이전에 피터 F와 결혼했었다. 투포(Tufo)는 알렉산드라(네 가디너) 크레엘(Creel)과 J. 랜달 크레엘(J. Randall Creel)의 딸로 특별재판소 및 형사재판소의 은퇴한 대법관이다.[5] 이들은 다음과 같은 부모였다.

2004년 아내의 삼촌인 로버트 데이비드 라이온 가디너(Robert David Lion Gardiner)가 사망한 후 괴레트족은 해안선 27마일, 식민지의 건물 몇 채, 200년 된 풍차, 가족묘지가 있는 3300에이커의 가디너 섬을 손에 넣었다.[14]

골렛은 프랑스 조키 클럽의 회원이었다. 2019년 10월 9일 맨해튼의 자택에서 별세했다.[1]
