리버뱅크 공원은 미국 뉴저지 주 에섹스 카운티 뉴어크의 아이언바운드 구간에 있는 공원이다. 이 공원은 1910년에[3] 개원되었고 1998년 4월 16일에 국가 사적지에 추가되었다.[4] 에식스 카운티 공원 시스템에서 가장 작고 가장 많이 사용되는 공원 중 하나이다.[5]

역사

이 공원은 프레데릭 로 옴스테드의 회사인 올름스테드 브라더스에 의해 설계되었다.[3] 이 공원 부지는 1907년에 인수되었고 1910년에 완공되었다.[3] 공원 건립의 원동력은 프랭클린 머피(도지사)가 있었는데, 그는 머피 바니시 작업장의 직원들이 열린 공간을 갖기를 원했다.[5]

1926년과 1931년 사이에 팽창이 일어났다.[3] 야구장은 1920년대에 문을 닫은 국내 최대의 금속 가공 회사 중 하나인 발바흐 제련 및 정제 회사의 이전 위치에 있다.[5]

1996년에는 공원 부지에 뉴어크 베어스, 베어스 & 이글스 리버프론트 경기장을 건설하려는 시도가 있어 공원을 철거했다.[6] 스파크(Save the Park at RiverbanK)는 공원이 파괴되는 것을 막기 위해 결성된 공동체 단체다.[6] 국민투표를 통해 공원을 구하려는 시도가 실패한 후, 그들은 국립역사공원에 공원을 올릴 수 있었다.[4]

스파크의 작업으로 2003년 완공된 공원 내 오염된 토양의 교정조치도 이루어졌다.[7]

2011년 8월, 2012년 8월에 개장한 Passic River를[8][9][10] 따라 Riverbank Park 옆에 Newark Riverfront Park를 조성하는 계획이 발표되었다.[11][12][13][14] 2016년 6월 하천변 공원지 추가 증축이 발표됐다.[15][16] 2017년에 작업이 진행되었다. 결국 브릿지 스트리트 브릿지에 도달할 것이다.[17]

프로그래밍

현재 스파크는 뉴저지 역사학회와 그레이터 뉴어크 음악원과[4] 함께 하는 학습 프로그램, 영화의 밤[18], 음악과 예술의 날 등의 프로그램을 공원에서 진행하고 있다.[19]
