퀘스트 비주얼은 2009년 전 비디오 게임 개발자 오타비오 굿이[5][6][7] 설립한 회사다.[1]인수 당시 이 회사는 오타비오 굿, 존 듀즈, 브라이언 린, 에릭 파크 등 4명의 상근 직원과 계약업체 마이아 굿을 두고 있었다.[7]인수 내용은 공개되지 않았다.[2][3][4][8]

퀘스트비주얼의 첫 제품 워드렌즈 1.0은 2010년 12월 16일 [5]출시됐으며 2015년 워드렌즈 2.2.3으로 출시됐으나 2021년 현재 아이튠즈를 통한 애플의 아이폰, 아이팟, 아이패드 등은 물론 [9]구글 플레이를 통한 안드로이드 스마트폰 선택도 불가능하다.[9][10]2013년 11월 구글의 글라스 개발 키트 공개에서는 워드렌즈의 번역 능력이 구글 글라스에서도 시연됐다.[11][12][13][14]2014년 1월 뉴욕타임즈 기사에 따르면 워드 렌즈는 현재 구글 글래스에 무료다.[15]게다가, 구글은 모든 워드 렌즈 언어 팩을 "제한된 시간" 동안 자유롭게 이용할 수 있게 만들었다.[3][4][8][16][17]워드 렌즈 기능은 구글 번역 앱에 통합되어 2015년 1월 14일에 출시되었다.[18][19][20][21]그 회사는 인수 당시까지 다른 제품을 가지고 있지 않았다.[22]
