폰슬렛은 달의 북쪽 사지에 위치한 달 충돌 분화구의 잔해이다.파스칼 분화구의 북동쪽과 아낙시메네스의 북서쪽에 있다.후자의 형태와 같이 폰슬렛은 마모되고 침식된 형태이며 내부가 용암으로 범람하거나 분출물로 인해 침식된 형태입니다.바깥쪽 가장자리는 남쪽으로 가는 좁은 틈과 북동쪽으로 가는 넓은 틈이 있는 낮은 원형 능선이다.내부 바닥에는 많은 작은 분화구가 있는데, 그 중 가장 눈에 띄는 것은 중간점 바로 남동쪽에 위치한 폰슬렛 H입니다.

관례상 이러한 특징은 달 지도에서 폰슬렛에 가장 가까운 분화구 중간 지점에 문자를 배치함으로써 식별된다.
