OpenPAM은 FreeBSD, NetBSD, DragonFly BSD[1] 및 MacOS(Snow Leopard부터 시작)가 사용하는 BSD 라이선스의 PAM 구현으로, 특정 Linux 배포에서 리눅스 PAM의 대안으로 제공된다.[2]

OpenPAM은 DARPA/SPAWAR 계약 N66001-01-C-8035("CBOSS")에 따라 Dag-Erling Smørgrav와 NAI Labs에 의해 FreeBSD 프로젝트를 위해 개발되었다.

2008년 1월 1일, OpenPAM은 Coverity가 선정한 11개 프로젝트 중 하나로, Coverity의 Prevent 정적 프로그램 분석 툴에 의해 오픈 소스 소프트웨어에서 발견된 버그를 추적하는 DHS 지원 오픈 소스 강화 프로젝트의 Rung 2로[clarification needed] 승격되었다.[3][4]2009년 9월 23일, 오픈팜은 루비, 삼바, 토르와 함께 룽 3으로 승격되었다.[5]
