NGC 2509는 꼭두각시자리에 있는 산개 성단이다.이것은 1783년 12월 3일 윌리엄 허셜에 [3]의해 발견되었다.이것은 New General [3]Catalogue의 편집자인 John Louis Emil Dreyer에 의해 "밝고, 꽤 풍부하고, 약간 압축된" 것으로 묘사되었다.
성단의 폭은 [1]약 14광년(4.2파섹)이지만 성단의 다른 매개변수는 잘 알려져 있지 않습니다.일부 연구는 태양계로부터 [1]약 9,500광년(2,900파섹) 떨어져 있는 것으로 추정했지만, 더 오래된 추정치는 2980파섹 [4]밖에 떨어져 있지 않다.성단의 나이는 12억 살에서[1] 80억 [4]살까지 상당히 다양했습니다.가이아 우주선에 의해 측정된 시차를 바탕으로 한 최신 분석은 이 물체가 2500~3000 [5]파섹의 거리를 가진 비교적 먼 물체라는 것을 확인시켜 준다.
